What is Soft Tissue Manipulation?

Updated: Oct 1

Soft tissue manipulation is one of the core treatments we utilize at Whole Life Chiropractic.

Following injury, or as a result of chronic excessive workloads, postural stress, chemical stress (think poor diet), and other insults, our muscles and connective tissues undergo maladaptive changes.

These changes can not only be seen under a microscope, but can also be felt by an experienced practitioner’s hands. We regularly feel soft tissue changes such as increased muscle tone (hypertonicity) and knots (trigger points) in our patients.

Through various different methods, we can use our hands, as well as instruments such as Graston tools and cupping, to help reduce muscle tone and trigger points. This often results in significant reductions in pain as well as increased pain-free range of movement.

Similar to our stance on chiropractic adjustments, we view soft tissue treatment as a piece of the treatment puzzle and almost always advocate that it be coupled with a home exercise and stretching regimen.

Both Dr. Angela and Dr. Taylor have been trained in various soft tissue treatment modalities such as Active Release Techniques, fascial distortion, and Graston.
